In magazines today, gender is represented in a very stereotypical way, women are dolled up and photoshopped and the men are dressed in suits with whatever hair style is in that season. In magazines and also most other media products, women are mainly objectified in a sexual way, this is because of the idea that 'sex sells', with this cliche in mind magazines mainly like to have women half naked, photoshopped so they have the perfect body and dolled up to make their skin seem flawless, this doesn't really represent what a natural average women looks like but what can you expect from something which only wants to sell its product?
The magazine Grazia which is a magazine aimed mainly at a female audience is a prime example of a media product which does this in order to gain more money,

Hollywood criticised for negative portrayal of LGBTQ characters.
Ben Beaumont-Thomas - Wednesday 23 July 2014 11.54 BST
"The lack of substantial LGBT characters in mainstream film, in addition to the outdated humour and stereotypes, suggests large Hollywood studios may be doing more harm than good when it comes to worldwide understanding of the LGBT community," said Glaad CEO and president Sarah Kate Ellis.
When homosexuality is featured in films, it portrays homosexuals in a very closed minded and stereotypical way. most characters are played by in reality heterosexual people, which is meant to add humour to the film through the gay character, this is offensive and gives the idea that no gay characters in films can be taken seriously due to these stereotypes.
This CNN coverage of Nelson Mandela's death represented it as a tragedy and a crucial lost to the world, although it is not said in so many words, his death was shown as a horrific time and they focused mainly on his work and commitment he out into his heritage and country, the head line is simple but yet by focusing almost fully on the aid work he did for his own people as well as the pride he had for what he believed in, his death was displayed as a severe loss to the world.
This is a social network site with a page tribute to Nelson Mandela, it was made after he died and already shows how respected he was and how much of a heart breaking event his death was, the site gives information on his burial and his death which represents his death as important and followed news, it also shows that his death is being treated as something which will live on and that it will be remembered for years to come.

Ideologies
This charity advert promotes not discriminating against people due to their mental health this advert mainly focuses on the mental illness; schizophrenia, this advert shows that without the support of the public and without people changing how they view mentally ill people, discrimination against people with these illnesses will never stop and they will forever be seen as the stereotypical 'crazy' person when this is not true at all. This advert also shows people that a person who has mental health problems is not in anyway defined by their illness and it does not make them any different from anyone else or stops them from living a full life.
Visual and narrative
Throughout this advert the main character is the man who has the mental illness; schizophrenia, at the start of the advert effects are used to give the impression that it is the start to a horror movie called 'schizo', during these first shots the audience is positioned so it seems as though we are stood in a dark corridor with shadows moving past doors and the words 'he is among us', this usually is the start to a horror movie so this is what we expect when the camera is moving so it seems as though we are walking towards a door, the audience is out in a position where we are fearful and yet curious as to whats behind the door that we are approaching ever so slowly, however when we open the door we are put into a calm, normal looking family home with a man, presumably the one who is 'among us'. In this shot the man is pouring tea, which shows he is a normal person with an everyday life, it is when he begins to speak we understand he is the man with the mental illness and that he looks just like any other person, this throws off our original expectations of being thrown into a horror movie seen with a icious murderer. The man introduces himself and almost sarcastically apologises for not being the stereotypical schizophrenic pyscho which we are used to being seen in movies and on TV. He talks about how with his friends and families support he can still live a full and enjoyable life despite living with a mental illness, this is the end of the advert and at this time the shot goes to a black screen with simple writing and the Time To Change logo with the charity number and the website.
Advertising Techniques
Although no real shock tactics are used in this advert, it does use a twist, it uses this when the scene at the start changes from horror movie to a man with a normal life, normal family, normal routine but lives with a mental illness. The way in which the advert starts uses enigma codes of 'whats behind the door' and 'what is he going to do' we almost get riled up for a horror based type of advert and yet it turns around and challenges our expectations.
Audience Questions
1a.
Two theories which are associated with the effects debate are The Hypodermic Syringe and The inoculation.
b. The hypodermic syringe debate suggests that the media and how it is represented has a rapid and major effect on its whole audience and that it dramatically changes their behavior and how they act. This debate believes that the media can change a person and how they act through the behavior shown through the media, it is thought that this debate is effective by the media showing the audience something that would trigger something in a person and that the person or audience as a collective would act out of desired response.
This debate also shows the audience members as all being passive and powerless to the medias 'injections' of texts, for example, The murder of a young child by two young teenagers was a crime that was apparently influenced by a media text, it was said that this murder was one that traced back to a movie the two boys had watched previously called "child play 3", this was a very big news story and was the perfect opportunity for this debate to be carried on. The media is said to be so powerful it can almost brain wash a person, and that people act upon the message that the media gives out,
Another example of the Hypodermic Syringe is the one in which a radio broadcast went out advertising 'war of the worlds' and people thought that the broadcast was real and that there was an actual alien invasion, because of this the audience who heard the broadcast erupted into chaos and "mass panic" within a short period of time, it supposedly caused people to flee cities, have heart attacks and even commit suicide, this was where the thought that this debate was true and people really did eat up what ever the media told them and they would act upon the information they were given immediately.
The Inoculation debate is also a debate which proves to see an audience as a passive one it implies that any audience member that is exposed to a certain type of extreme text for a long period of time that they will eventually become immune to it and can lead to desensitisation to imagery that is explicit or extreme. However this debate can be used for good as anti-drug campaigns and other like this are the type of texts that is drilled into our brains from young ages, surely with all the advertisements and how aware we are made of the dangers the media could turn us away from this type of behavior.
However as most audiences see constant extreme behavior on TV all the time, they could become immune to it and act out with the same behavior as this is what they are brought up around and its clear that this debate links in with the hypodermic syringe model.
2.
There is a major difference between the passive and active audience, all though it is wrong to think that audience members are split into two categories, this theory just makes us see different members of an audience in different ways.
A passive audience is seen as one that is controlled and weak willed, almost as if they follow the crowd and prefer to be told what to do and just get on with it willingly without any arguments, this is why they are seen as a passive audience, where as a audience which is seen as active is one in which the members are viewed as engaged, involved and and free willed. An active audience is more likely to participate in what is happening in the media and ask questions and such where as a passive audience is more likely to just sit back and watch.
An example of something that a passive audience would watch is a movie with a simple ending and one they don't particularly have to question or think too much into, where as a documentary or conspiracy program is something an active audience would most probably watch as it gives them something to actually think about and question to themselves.

I think that violent behavior on TV causes real life violence, but only to a certain limit. For a person to act out and be caused to make violence because of something they have seen on TV is not the completely the TVs problem, I think it is certainly down to the persons back ground and in some cases the persons mental health.
However I believe that continuous violence can be harmful to a persons behavior if they are constantly exposed to this type of media, especially if the viewing audience is young as young people are the most impressionable and TV and things they have seen on it can rub off on them and cause random outbursts of behavior, but I think that this is not the case with the most serious crimes, I completely think that if a person is acting out because of something they have been exposed to on TV it is solemnly because that act that they have witnessed has triggered a mental health problem or past issue they have had with their upbringing. So this is why i think violence on TV only causes violent behavior to a certain extent.
4.
I do believe that an active audience theory is more acceptable that a passive audience theory as an active audience is a more common audience, and i may just think this because i believe i am an active audience member, however i do think that there is more acceptability to this theory as its hard to believe that a person can witness a media text and not have it play on their mind or even question what they have seen. Also a passive audience seems as though it would be one that does question things they witness but just choices to not act upon it or go into too much detail about it with themselves.
However with out contradicting myself i can see where people would believe that it is more acceptable for a passive audience as it is easy for a person to become another member of a sheep like following of what they consume in the media, and it is also ten times easier for them to just go willingly with what they view and not question it, however i feel this is less acceptable because people such as the explorers would go against this type of act, i feel the only people who fit in with the passive audience theory theory are those who fall into the mainstream category as they need to feel secure and love and belonging. This is probably the wrong way to answer it but this is why i think the active audience is more acceptable than the passive audience theory.

One media text i undeniably enjoy is Bad Education, It stars Jack Whitehall (my favourite actor) as young teacher Alfie Wickers – "the worst teacher ever to grace the British education system" Mathew Horne plays Fraser, the headmaster of the fictional school alongside him.
I feel the reason I enjoy this TV show so much is because the humor of it all is something that is a type of entertainment that can help me forget about real life issues and stresses and i ca focus fully on the entertainment at hand and feel happy and laugh whilst watching it, it also manages to make me laugh when i feel down and i guess in a way for me it is an escape mechanism from everyday life and its struggles, without me even realising it was in the first place.
Also since i am not the only person in my friends group that watch this show it increases our social interaction and gives us things to talk about, we sometimes even get together to watch it and use it as conversation starters. Also this text is something i use to talk to people through social media such as facebook, tumblr and twitter, its a TV show in which you can share the humor with people and it has even brought me closer to some people funnily enough.
I believe the other reason i like it so much is because i formed a personal identity with th characters in the show, as they are all in education and even though it is a comedy based show i feel that it portrays a realistic view on what happens in schools and how it really is even though it makes jokes and humor out of it it really let me connect with the characters as some of the situations that happen in the show i have experienced myself whilst in school
This text doesn't particularly gives any information or surveillance on what is happening in the world at that point but it can at some points give past information about things that happened through out history even it is whilst making fun of it and making them into jokes for the show to be funny.

The text that changed my life!
one text that really stood out to me more than any other was probably the album 'The Black Parade is Dead by My Chemical Romance, I first found this text in 2011 and being young i didn't quite understand what was behind it and what the lyrics meant at the time, but as i continued listening and got older i found that i related to the lyrics of the songs and i formed a personal identity of my own through the music. When ever i felt i had nobody or felt in a bad place i felt this album was the alternative to my problems and used it as an escape mechanism, it worked and gradually i used to feel myself feeling better about everything knowing that i had something to relate to and someone who could actually out into words how i was feeling at a certain point in my life.
The whole album is pretty much up beat but the lyrics still find a way to have meaning and make a person feel accepted, the songs i related to most on the album were probably, Welcome to The Black Parade and Famous Last Words, the whole album is although upbeat is still quite dark and sad but has a way of making people feel better and gives them a place to go to in the darkest times.
I think this album gave me a new outlook on life and showed me that its okay to not be okay and that there's always somewhere to go or something to take your mind off things when you need it. it also showed me that everybody has problems and in a weird way made me a better person and made me a more considerate person to other people. This text has a song for almost everything that could possibly be wrong with a person and that what always fascinated me about this album, it managed to attract over 1 million copies in just the US alone, this album has been bought all around the world by all ages, it just shows that anyone and everyone can relate to this album in one way or another and I think that without me knowing it when i first heard it that's what drew me into it, it certainly did change my life, it helped me out of a place i didn't even think i could get out of, i swear my life by this album and it is and always will be my favourite album because of that.
The album is based upon a parade that young boys father took him to, he believes its his fondest memory and as he gets older and reaches his time of death, the black parade is what comes to lead him through to the after life, all of the songs on this album link in with that making it to me, a severely beautiful album with so much meaning, it represents the band so well and the members of the band, the album tells a story of life and death and it has not only changed peoples lives but its seriously saved them too, its an album for everyone and welcomes any listeners.

Audience Classification
The text i have chosen to analyse is one called Waterloo Road, Waterloo Road is a TV drama which has been on going since march 2006, it is based around a school and the life of the students and teachers that attend the school. For this text i believe that the audience is mainly teenagers as it is teenagers in which they mostly follow in the show, although it could also be aimed at teachers too as it is relate-able and shares a personal identity with both types of audience.
From my knowledge of the show and with what i have learnt I can say i honestly believe that the audiences who watch this would probably be them in the Class E category as the people watching this show are ones who still attend school or are teachers, this lands them in mainly the E category. I think that when writing this TV programme the writers had these types of audiences involved because of the story lines the show uses and the actors they use to star in the show. The show reaches out to those of each gender, age group and even home/school life as it covers all things a young person and teacher could be going through. It is set originally in Rochdale but from 2011 it transferred to Glasgow, so this show reaches out nation wide to students and teachers all over the UK and gives a similar representation of what its like being in and working in a public British school.
This TV series (to me) challenges the audiences needs for love and belonging as it is a programme that i think falls into the mainstream category, the reason for this is because it is a well known TV show and has big finales and openings so it always gives people things to talk about.
This series follows story lines of drug abuse, theft and sexual situations between teenagers, this whole show is one that draws in the types of people who follow the rebel, drop outs and drifters. Also it certainly falls upon the needs such as, the need for sex, as in the show there are numerous occasions in which affairs and one night stands have happened and also the need for love and belonging as there has been a lot of episodes in which characters such as Darren Hughes (broken home) has done criminal things to be accepted by "friends."

Media Homework
1a) The Mainstream
The mainstream audience is the largest and most common audience, these are the people who more or less prefer to be in a group and go along with what the majority of people are doing, this means they like to have security and consistency in their life. The mainstream audience are the most conformist group and want to fit in with society. The kind of media text this group are most likely to enjoy are ones such as Britain got talent and The x factor. This type of media i think suits the group well is because of how it is talked about across the nation and is a show that can be talked about even when the show isn't on at that moment, the hype of the show starting right up until the finale always gives these types of groups something to constantly talk about. This media is also in other forms of media such as the news and in magazines, this shows how popular the show is and this gives the mainstream audience a sense of security that they all have the same interests as their peers.
The Succeeder
The Succeeders are the audiences who constantly want to win and make the best of themselves, they also believe that successions is their main goal in life. These types of people usually have high standards and want to always reward themselves. They have strong goals in life and tend to be well organised and know exactly what they want to gain from life, these types of people i think would enjoy media such as quiz shows, these kind of shows are ones such as tipping point or the chase, the reason i think these shows would fit into this group is because the audience still have control over the answers they give and can decide which questions they want to answer and the ones they don't.
The Explorer
The Explorers are the audiences who are driven by their curiosity and their determination to travel and discover new things. These types of people are the type that always set to putting their dreams into reality. These types of people enjoy movies such as Donnie Darko, the reason i think they would enjoy these types of movies because its one you really have to get engaged in and have to try to piece together the evidence to figure it out, they also would enjoy documentaries about conspiracies as it makes them think about it and use their brains,
The Aspirer
The Aspirers are the groups of people who have esteem needs and want to have status in their lives, they usually want status from others and want to be known by others. The types of media that this group would enjoy are Britain's Next Top Model, this is because this type of media is one that is full of self confidence which is what aspirers need in their lives, also it is a show that lets them look up, if you will, to other people and allows them to seek
I think these categories are some what useful to a certain extent, i think this because some of these categories such as the Aspirer could also fit into the main stream category as the Aspirer is more likely to seek acceptance, kind of like the main stream audience, how ever these do help us to kind of 'read' people and give us different views on the different types of people and the categories that they fall under. I do think these groups help but it is just undeniable that one certain person falls under one group and one group only.

The show which i chose was one called Catfish, this show is about a man who was once in an online relationship but wasn't sure who he was talking to was who he thought she was, he made his experience into a movie and then from that started to help people that are in the situation he was in around America, the slogan for the show is "catfish the movie was my story, catfish the TV show, is yours." It is usually on around 5pm on MTV or Viva and can have reruns of previous episodes on through out the day. The type of people i think would enjoy this show are either the mainstream audience or the explorer. The Mainstream audience i think would enjoy this because it is a show that is watched by a lot of people and always gives something to talk about, it has big follow ups all the way through the episodes and when the person is uncovered it cuts to a break, this gives the viewers a lot to talk about, whether it be the suspense or the final result. Also The Explorer fits under this typee of TV show because this show is basically one which you have to try and help figure out for yourself, you always end up trying to figure out if the person is who they said they were before they are even revealed.

Review of a music album
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
The album The Black Parade is a world wide famous album by the former band My Chemical Romance, The Black Parade fits into the genre of alternative rock. The album was released in October 2006 and was the follow up album of Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge was was released in 2004. The album begins with the track The End. This song is one of the shortest on the album but yet opens the record so perfectly, the song is one of the only on the album that has a follow up song right after it, the song Dead! is what The End. fades into and the two songs contrast in such a great way. Even after their split in 2013 The Black Parade album is still one of their most famous releases and their best seller since 2006. There are two well known songs on the album that a lot of people have heard whether they a fan of My Chemical Romance or not, these two songs are Teenagers and Welcome To The Black Parade, these songs complete the album.Their previous albums "I brought you my bullets, you gave me your love" and "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" were quite rough sounding, these albums both have meanings just like The Black Parade but these two sound almost compltely different to the style My Chem brought in The Black Parade, they took a risk with the major change but almost everyone seemed to enjoy the album more than they did the other two.
Although to me no band can come close to the style that My Chem brought to the music business, i certainly recommend the album, specifically to fans of Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco.
Photographic Composition
This photograph is an example of a image that uses rule of thirds. The main part of the image that we view is the tree, the reason for this is because it is part of one of the grids used in the rule of three technique.
This image is an example of foreground/background photography, this image in the fore ground of this image there is a seagull and in the background there is a bridge
