The first poster
is of a teenaged girl with a mute symbol on her mouth, this connotes that she
has been made to stay quiet, and that someone is controlling her. The tight
frame around her, gives a sense of discomfort and shows how she is feeling
trapped. The slogan at the bottom of the picture “Talking helps it stop. FULL
STOP.” The words full stop are in
capital letters, which connotes it being a threat, the threat being to the
abuser, also the words “full stop” is saying that the abuse is going to fully
stop. There is use of repetition, with the words “stop” and “talk” which
reinforces the posters key points. The use of light and dark contrasts connotes
that her innocent (the light) is being corrupted/ consumed by the dark.
The second poster
is a lot more abstract than the first, this is a picture of a girls head
hanging from a door, the fact that she doesn’t have a body could connote that
it is not her body any more due to it being abused. However another connotation
could be that this is a mask she wears so that no one can see her problems, and
so she looks happy. The camera is positioned so that it is obvious the girl
doesn’t have a body. The tie on the door shows that the girl is in school. The slogan “ if you’ve been sexually abused,
you don’t have to hide it any more” reinforces the idea that the head is
actually a mask so the girl can hide her true emotions.
The target
audiences for these advertisements would be teenagers, this is because the
models used for these advertisements are young teenagers, which makes it
relatable the models in the posters are both shown to face the same common
problems of being a young teenagers which is acne and school, but then there is
a problem added which is the abuse they face, this is why those who face
similar problems will be drawn. Also the fact the room in the second poster
would look similar to some of the target audience’s bedrooms.
