Essay: Targeting specific audiences is key for a magazine as they must make sure that the content they are including into the magazine appeals to the different audience categories. When categorising audiences, several media models are considered. One of these being the 4C’s. A category in this model would be the mainstream. The mainstreams sole focus and need in life is the need for love and belonging, familiarity, a routine and they seem to follow the ideologies of we before me and tend to buy more popular big named brands. Look Magazine would appeal to the audience group for several reasons. It offers the readers a look the latest trends and products that are for sale. Most of the products that are advertised in the magazine will appeal to a mainstreamer as they are mainly brands such as Topshop, River Island and Apple. Another group would be the aspirer. The Aspirer is acquisitive, materialistic, they strive for acceptance amongst others and are driven by others perception of them. Look Magazine would be perfect for the aspirer because the magazine fits their needs perfectly. For example, they are looking for acceptance from their peers and Look promote products that will help gain acceptance from their peers, such as the trendiest clothes, new makeup and beauty products. In one issue, there is a page dedicated to clothes named ‘we love’. The mode of address hints at the reader as being able to seek approval from Look itself if they buy these clothes. Another media model to consider is the lifestyle categories. A category that can be linked with the magazine’s audiences is Trendies. Trendies seek to be admired by peers. Buying the products and clothes that are being promoted will help them to achieve this. There will be a certain audience profile when it comes to the magazine. The average age that they will be would most likely be 23 to 25 years of age. They are mainly female and possibly employed in some sort of retail or customer service job. They are most likely to be in the C1 classification and would be a single heterosexual white female.
