Clueless is a smart and funny movie directed by Amy Heckerling. Cher portrayed by the teen phenomenon Alicia Silverstone and her best friend Dionne (Stacey Dash) are both named after singers from the past who come up with one liners such as 'we both know what it is like to have people be jealous of us.' A typical, cliche high school rom-com, clueless tells the story of a privileged, Californian teen who is trying to inspire those around her one make over at a time. One make over in particular is the beloved Brittany Murphy portraying the character of Ty, a pitiful lost cause in Cher's eyes. Daddy's girl Cher learns the difficulties first-hand of what it's like to change a hipster to become a rich kid of Beverly Hills just like Cher. The plot introduces Ty as a helpless newbie and Cher makes it her mission to make her her 'mini me'. Guiding her from Ty's ideal man Travis portrayed excellently by Breckin Meyer, to the most popular boy in the school Elton (Jeremy Sisto). Cher reaches to the extent of being held at gun point to ensure Ty reaches her full potential as being the most popular girl at the school but Cher is oblivious to the fact that her help would mean Cher's clone becoming more loved than her. Whilst Cher is working on the 'Ty project' she is also working on herself be it failing her driving test dramatically or messing up her father's successful accounting business. Here, though, she bonds with her geeky step-brother Josh played by the famous Paul Rudd. It is not until the end of the film that she realises who she really loves. Is it Elton, Josh or new to the school Christian (Justin Walker). Christian? if Cher was a boy it would be Christian. Infatuated by his outstanding taste in fashion, his remarkable charisma and his gorgeous looks, Cher adopts a new project just to keep Christian; whether it be sending herself flowers, chocolates or inviting him to her mansion only for it to turn out as a disaster, Cher realises that her control she once has is slowly slipping away. Within days boys no longer notice her, they notice Ty.
Media Text Review: Purpose Justin Bieber
****- Billboard "Justin Bieber proves his growth."
Said to be the reborn of the musical sensation that is Justin Bieber. And I couldn’t agree more. Through years and years of controversy and court cases was the birth of the new Justin Bieber. Hey, he’s not for everyone, but thanks to this album the majority that hated him has now turned to the minority.
Released in November 2015, Bieber already had 2 #1 singles on his record. Where Are U Now released in the previous year 2014 by producers Diplo and Skrillex featured Bieber which significantly introduced him to his new venture in the industry. From Pop phenomenon came top of the electronic dance music charts. This new sound gave Bieber a brand new, unfamiliar audience. No longer were his fans categorised as “12-year-old girls.” Anyone who had a liking for a beat drop could consider themselves a “belieber.”
In late July 2015 came the social media countdown of his iconic hit What Do You Mean.Speaking exclusively on On Air With Ryan Seacrest Bieber officially announced his new single. Throughout the next 4 weeks until August 28th when the said single would drop on Spotify and Apple Music, the industry’s biggest stars including Kanye West(who produced Purpose – but we’ll get to that later), The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes & Fifth Harmony. All completely different artists which makes you question, is WDYM going to interest Kanye’s Rap audience, The Weeknd’s RnB audience, Shawn Mendes’s acoustic pop audience or 5H’s fierce, feminine audience? Will it follow in WAUN’s dance footsteps or will it show the return to Bieber’s famous pop background? Thankfully it was the first option and I firmly believe if he chose to return to his old sound, it wouldn’t have been broke the record for most streamed song and he wouldn’t have achieved his first #1 in the UK and Australia, both great achievements.
After the high praise Bieber received from his #1 single came the next overwhelming unexpected success of Sorry. The past 3 years for Bieber had been a rollercoaster that seemed only to drop further and further. Now, matured and remorseful, he addresses his mistakes and asks for forgiveness making you think, how could you not admire this transformation? However lyrics such as “missing more than just your body” only makes you wonder is he sorry to his loyal (*cough* me *cough*) fans or to his famous ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. On and off for 4 years, one could only imagine part of his highly anticipated album will address the troublesome relationship. The meaning behind this single is irrelevant however when you take into consideration how much this did for Bieber’s new cleansed reputation. Released not even 8 weeks after his previous smash hit WDYM – that was still top of the charts, Sorry soared into the charts better than anyone ever predicted, making those witnessing his relentless success question, when will it end? Will it end? Spoiler; it hasn’t. Those doubtful of his success during WAUN had the excuse that he was featured on a Diplo/Skrillex single – both critically acclaimed producers. Now, though, Bieber is producing and writing these #1 hits by himself, shocking everybody a single at a time. The next single is bigger than the previous and when Sorry was released, we could hardly fathom how he was ever going to top it due to the mass of its success. That was before Love Yourself was released.
There are many significant milestones in life that is just impossible to forget, for example: Where were you when The Beatles split up? Where were you when Robbie Williams went solo? Or my personal favourite; “Where were you when you first heard Love Yourself?” I, one of the many, can proudly claim I was listening live to Apple Music: Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show. On November 9th, 4 days before the release of Purpose, Bieber premiered two - yes TWO, songs that were on his latest record. Initially, he intended only to premier Love Yourself. When I first heard the soft, acoustic feel of the guitar I could only reminisce on the 2013 release of Believe: Acoustic. Being a fan since 2009, my first memory of Bieber was him strumming a guitar without any DJ’s or beats. Just him and his guitar. Hearing the first instrumental, I caught a glimpse of old school Bieber. Knowing it was co-wrote by Ed Sheeran left me no doubts that it was going to be anything less than a lyrical masterpiece. Having said I was a fan since 2009, I witnessed the birth of the famous power couple Jelena. Being a young, envious teenage girl, I was nothing less than smug when I realised Love Yourself was a diss track, to who was left to the imagination. The famous line that had me falling off my couch being “My mama don’t like you and she likes everyone.” One line giving millions of people an insight of what appeared to be a toxic relationship. One line giving this upcoming album not only attention at the industry level but now global media level. This reaction was shared worldwide. Shortly after, The Feeling featuring Indie superstar Halsey was premiered, once again widening the audience that Bieber now gathered. “Am I in love with you or am I in love with the feeling” hinted at his famous high key relationship with Selena Gomez. The question being raised, of what genre is this album going to be? Who is it going to appeal to? The genius idea to release such an iconic track widened the audience to those who would be willing to buy this album in 4 days. Even Ed Sheeran fans were impressed, the significance to that being 6 months ago Sheeran fans and Bieber fans were on total opposite ends of the spectrum. Love Yourself reached #1 for 8 weeks in 32 countries. At one point, Love Yourself held the #1 spot on the UK charts, Sorry held the #2 spot and What Do You Mean held the #3 spot. Something that hadn’t been done since Elvis Presley…iconic.
You’re probably wondering why I have chosen to review an album only to review 4 singles. I’m not only reviewing the album as it was released, I’m reviewing the build up to it and highlighting why exactly it achieved so much success. It wasn’t overnight.
I previously mentioned that Kanye West produced Purpose, known for his auto tuned sound effects. He also had help from RnB producer Jason Boyd formerly known as Poo Bear. Earlier I questioned what audience Bieber was going to attract based on the artists he chose to include in his social media project for What Do You Mean. Even though Kanye doesn’t feature on the album, his RnB/Hip Hop sound is clearly evident from features by rappers Travis Scott on “No Sense”, Nas on “We Are” and Big Sean on “No Pressure” - a rapper whom had already featured on one of Bieber’s biggest hits As Long As You Love Me. Although the record has an overwhelming RnB vibe, the EDM sentiment is still too strong. Not mentioning the three singles What Do You Mean, Where Are U Now and Sorry,Purpose still includes other EDM tracks including I’ll Show You – a track that gives an insight on Bieber’s troubled past with lines like “Life’s not easy, I’m not made out of steel. Don’t forget that I’m human, don’t forget that I’m real.” “They want me to be perfect, they don’t even know that I’m hurting.” “My life is a movie and everyone is watching.” Although these EDM tracks are credible for their contagious beat, the lyrical sentiment behind them is unmissable – all tracks written by Bieber conveys that everything he’s saying holds meaning to his roller coaster of a life. My personal favourite being Children with lines like “Look at all the children we can change.” This line striking me as it shows the changed behaviour and mindset of Bieber. No longer is he the arrogant and selfish teenage boy who has gone off the rails. There is an underline of desperation in this line. He’s asking to be the change to children because he was also one of those children who needed to be changed. This whole record is a personal response to his experiences in the past years. They’re even hidden in EDM tracks disguised by strong beats. “Where are you now that I need you? I can’t find you anywhere.” A cry for help. “Let me redeem myself tonight” A cry for help. “I just need one more shot at forgiveness” A cry for help. The unexpected turning point of this record though, is the number of ballads it has. Life Is Worth Living expresses his realisation that he has found his purpose during his almost suicide point in his life – pun intended. Purpose expresses how he found his right path and how thankful he is. Including these ballads was a turning point in the album because throughout the other tracks he has hidden these cries for help by disguising them with infectious beats. No one cares what he's trying to say because they're only interested in the feel good rhythm. Only carefully listening intently to the other tracks would you know the sadness he is trying to convey. However, placing these ballads on the record shows how Bieber wants those who are to blame for his struggles to know how much he has been hurting.
That is why I have chosen to review this album specifically. This is the most honest record he has produced and one of the most honest records I have heard. Somehow he has managed to write about his depression and still turn it into something that has broken streaming records. That is why I’ve written over 1000 words because there is so much to write about.

Batman Arkham Asylum Review.
Batman Arkham Asylum is the first of the Batman series of games to be released and received a 5 star rating. It is an action packed game that requires some aspects of observation to over come challenges and obstacles. The game has a few aspirations from it such as Sherlock Holmes as he is constantly challenged by puzzles and Batman is as well with Riddler having to use his high-tech equipment to acquire 'Riddler Trophies which inside contain a riddle. Furthermore another aspiration is from Leonardo da Vinci as one of his spectacular inventions was a sketch of a bat-wing flying machine.
The story line of this particular game begins with Batman escorting Joker to Arkham Asylum as Joker 'handed himself in' to Batman. On arrival at the Asylum joker breaks out of his restraining of the officers and is able to release himself from his handcuffs then the terror begins... Joker sets out consecutive challenges for Batman during his search and find of Jokers location such as releasing Bane onto him and making him perform rescue mission of officers and Jim Gordon (Head of the GCPD).
During on a embarking hunt for the Joker various sounds of the game are portrayed such as voices of characters like Batman, Joker, Killer Croc, Scarecorw, Bane and Harley Quinn and songs that may be played in the background all from the artist Nick Arundel who appears to make all the songs in all Batman games such as 'Venom Factory'
Comparing this to Batman Arkham City, the fighting style from the character is very similar to Arkham Asylum as it is very fluent and powerful. A very nice special effect incorporated in to the fighting is that the final blow in the fight is slowed down to show emphasis in Batman's strike and to show the gamer where Batman is pinpointing his devastating blow. Moreover, there is various comparisons such as the main enemy being Joker again but this time its in the city of Arkham, this gives the game more of a adventure aspect as Batman is able to glide from building to building and use his zipline. On the negative side this enhances Joker to reek even more terror than he previously did in the Asylum.
The director for both of these games is called Sefton Hill. Sefton Hill is an English video game developer, director and writer and with Jamie Walker, the co-founder of Rocksteady Studios.
Batman Arkham Asylum mostly appeals to a masculine audience in my opinion as the main character is male plus there is a lot of violence included in the game, to support this in almost all the Batman games women characters that are playable come as a downloadable content, i see this as women in the game are a second priority as they are not originally included the main game story and they are more of a 'side mission'. Also Batman Arkham Asylum appeals to superhero lovers as batman is included in his very own comic books, films and games, but also he is part of the Justice League which is known to be the most powerful united group of individuals in the DC comics.
The film adaptation of John Green’s cherished young adult novel ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ has become one of the most highly talked about films of the year and not without good reason. The film revolves around sixteen year old Hazel Grace Lancaster who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Thyroid cancer. While attending support group, which she was forced into by her concerned mother, she meets the handsome, charismatic and endearing Augustus Waters. This movie, despite the generic, been-there-done-that set up of the basic plot, adds a very unique and truly heartbreaking atmosphere to the story and with such lovable characters it’s almost impossible for viewers not to be sobbing loudly in the middle of a crowded cinema screen.
During the film there are a wide range of extremely intense and emotional scenes that where portrayed remarkable by the entire cast, Shailene Woodley (Hazel) truly embodied the character and pulled her life and soul straight from the pages of the book. The chemistry shown between not just Hazel and Gus but between all the characters was so heartfelt and believable that at points it made me forget that this was not based on a true story. Despite on the surface this being a teen love story, an aspect that made this film truly remarkable to me was the family dynamic presented throughout. The interaction between Hazel and her family was so believable and relatable to people in any walk of life not just people in her situation.
Cinematography wise, the movie was shot in a way that felt completely real and perfectly naturalistic, nothing felt too shiny or high end, ensuring that the main focus of this movie was the beautifully compelling plot and characters. A very nice addition to the film was definitely the way Hazel and Gus would text back and forth to each other. The texts would appear in speech bubbles across the screen, which not only allowed the movie to flow well but also allowed for some very adorable moments from the novel to be included in the movie.
Throughout The Fault in Our Stars the score and soundtrack included is perfectly fitting with every theme of the movie and each piece of music complements the scenes flawlessly. The score is so beautifully and carefully composed that each time I here a song included in the film it leaves me with chills, this movie is a prime example of a delicate soundtrack with a large effect on the audience.
Despite this movie being branded primarily as a film for teenagers and young adults, I believe that any person could enjoy this movie. It is a human story at heart without no special effects or large outlandish sets, it is a story about people and the tragedy of life itself which anyone can relate to. The Fault in Our Stars, is a tragically beautiful movie, that embodies everything good about films made for teenage audiences. It combines comedy and heartbreak to create the perfect balance for a film that stays with you for a long while after the credits role.
High By The Beach is the latest song from Lana's upcoming album "Hooneymoon" which is out on September 18th. Her previous album "Ultraviolence" came out January of 2014 which did not disappoint any Lana fans including myself. One can only hope that this next album is beyond better than her last, hoping for new sounds not yet heard by the talented singer, and this song gives us all the hope we need.
This song represents itself to be highly relaxing straight from pressing play. The chorus of the song depicts Lana as very dissatisfied for something causing this sadness that she desperately craves to be taken away. The Florida Kilos singer delivers a very urban and grungy vibe to the consumer as the beat of the song posses a relaxing rhythm into the listener. With this song, Del Rey really portrays the title of her new album, Hooneymoon, in this song which has connotations of love, sex and being free.
Personally I hope this song is just the first sip of this talented tea Lana Del Rey kindly serves us with. It is such an insight of what is yet to come. It's has Team Lana (aka Lana's fan base) on the edge of their seats highly anticipating her new album. Lana herself describes this album,to Billboard, as, "very different from the last one and similar to the first two." (Lana Del Rey and Born to Die)
Overall, High By The Beach is easily a true artistic masterpiece by Lana Del Rey. This song takes definite priority in my "morning jams" playlist as it is at such a high standard. I absolutely adore this song and will be a repeat for weeks to come. I give this song a generous 5/5 as I do have little comprassion to give this to until midnight on September 18th.
Dirty Sprite 2 also known as 'DS2' by Future is his newest album, it is a sequel to his 2011 mixtape. His first Dirty Sprite was a highly rated but due to a series of unfortunate events his following albums never lived up to the standard he set himself. Naming this album Dirty Sprite 2 was a very clever idea because not only was it a sequel to his mixtape it also carried on the same standard. Such a high quality album came as a surprise to most except the Future fans as they knew what he was capable of and shrugged off all doubt of the album following the standard of his more recent work.
The album has a very rough, raw and edgy feel to it due the sounds and his lyrics. His lyrics follow a stereotype that has been linked with rap music for years, the stereotype of rapping about girls, money and drugs but he does this with a sarcastic spin on it. He doesn't follow the typical conventions of rap music by doing the complete opposite with a satiric spin on it.
The sounds of the album stick with the conventional sounds of Atlanta music, this is because Future got a lot of help on his album from producers from his home town of Atlanta to add to the raw mixtape effect, this also links to the name suggesting it is a sequel to his mixtape in 2011. Also the sounds are very Atlanta like because it may be sticking to the sarcastic feel, for example he raps about being rich and moving up in the world yet hes also saying he hasn't moved anywhere at all, hes still the same person from Atlanta, being rich and famous doesn't change you.
Overall this album is a very high rated album by majority of listeners and critics. It has had a lot of positive feedback and a lot of sales so far this year reflecting the high standard. I would overall give this album a 8/10 as it does have a fairly repetitive sound throughout the album.
This week I will be doing a review of a video game known as
Persona 4. I am an avid fan of the RPG genre and I did know of this game for quite
some time but never decided to play it until recently, so I decided to give it
a try and was very pleasantly surprised when I found it to be a really
enjoyable and very interesting take on the genre.
The game is about a high school student by the name of Yu
Narukami (the character’s name can be changed to whatever the player would
want) who moves to the countryside to live with his uncle and cousin, he goes
to the new school and meets his new friends as every stereotypical ‘boy moves
to insert location here’ story goes about doing things. Things get interesting
however as on the day he arrives at school a dead body is discovered, this
starts off the escalating mystery as another person dies and the police are
incapable of catching the culprit. It is then up to the main character and his
friends to discover who is committing the murders, which leads them to entering
a TV world in which monsters exist and people’s worst thoughts become reality.
The characters to choose from use monsters known as
Personas, beings that represent who they are. These Personas are important as
they each have their own strengths and weaknesses which are important to
remember when dealing with the monsters known as shadows. The game is your
standard affair when it comes to the RPG, monsters have weaknesses and you
exploit them which is what you would expect. The main attraction of Persona 4
is the strict time management; this is because the game’s story goes over the
course of an in game year. This means planning out your days perfectly to get
the items you want, the side quests completed and developing supports with your
team mates. Now why would you want to build supports? Well not only does it
give party members extra abilities which could save you from certain death it
also helps with the Persona fusion system for the main character. Personas can
be collected after battle and fused with each other to make stronger Personas;
the bonuses they receive vary depending on what type they are from. The type
that a Persona is from is represented by a support; these supports can be party
members or people in town. Sounds easy right? Wrong. Your character has two
types of experience to gain, one in the TV world in battles and experience in
the real world. You’re still a high school student after all, which means the
usual things a student has to do such as studying, homework etc. This keeps the
player occupied and can makes the supports much more important as you have less
time to focus on them while bringing up your knowledge, courage, diligence and
so on.
The environments in the real world are not anything special
I’m afraid, they’re the typical Japanese town locations that you would expect
and they aren’t anything to be amazing at. That changes completely in the TV
world however as each dungeon is unique and is and help contrast the simple and
somewhat bland environments of the real world. These dungeons are a
manifestation of the victims who are thrown into the TV world, which means
someone has to save them and that person is you. But you haven’t got time to do
that? You have the real world to deal with? That’s too bad as the real world
also wants you to save the victims in the form of the weather system. The real
world has weather which can change your plans very quickly; this is because the
most dangerous weather state to have is fog. When the fog comes in the real
world it clears in the TV world, this doesn’t sound too bad until it is
explained that the monsters will get violent and kill the victim who is thrown
in. This means you need to not only check the weather, plan out your day for
experience; get supports and do everything expected from a high school student
but now you have to make sure you save the victim before the fog shows up.
Now as you can imagine this may sound like a lot to handle
and is quite stressful, and that’s the fun of Persona 4. But it is also the
greatest downfall of Persona 4 as well, this is down to the fact that it is not
only difficult in terms in planning but even the battles are difficult. Persona
4 gets caught in the typical trap of an RPG, which is of course grinding!
Grinding is nothing new to the RPG; it has been around for a long time and is
almost expected. However remember that planning I mentioned before? Well that
also means you have less time to grind which is especially frustrating when
even on easy the game is difficult, grinding opportunities are scarce and you
will run out of resources very quickly.
So even while the game as a whole can be frustrating and
difficult if you like a decent challenge while trying a new take on the long
overused RPG genre then this is worth trying out, it still holds up even in the
age of HD and if the PlayStation 2 quality bothers you there is a remake
called Persona 4 Golden which adds more to an already expansive game. If you’re
looking for a game that will keep you busy for several weeks then I recommend
this game, with a new game plus mode also included it adds an extra one hundred
hours to a game which already passes the one hundred and fifty mark.
Media diary week 1- Review on the Inbetweeners movie
The inbetweeners movie is about 4 college graduate males who go on holiday to another country in order to get drunk and meet girls as part of a stereotypical ‘lads holiday’. During their holiday they experience finding new lovers. An example of this is when Jay, one of the 4 males, finds a an over-weight girl called and eventually falls in love with her. Another experience of which they encounter is sheer embarrassment through drunken mistakes. The film is a comedy of which it has 3 series out before the movie.
The narrative is a linear narrative so the movie had a straightforward layout. This makes is grabbing because its not complicated and easy to understand. It is clear within the text that the audience isn’t for young people because the language is horrifyingly crude yet and as a result, very funny. This makes for a humorous adult film to watch on a night in with the lads. The text is clearly aimed at lads because the humour used is crude which is commonly associate with lads humour. Girls, however are associated with being polite and girly, not using bad language and pursuing a ‘goody-goody’ personality. Another reason why I believe it to be aimed at males is because they can relate to the characters. On the males only holiday they get up to action with girls and get drunk at bars, as a result doing the stupid things that a young lad would do on a holiday so it adds realism. The characters are recognisable as everyday males who want a fun time on holiday to meet their goals and desires.
The themes of which the text portrays are love, lust, youth and 4 males on a lads holiday which is what the story of the film is based around. The narrative surrounds these themes well as all are demonstrated by the males within the film. A lot of examples of these themes are prominent as they males get drunk on a boat surrounded by young people (mainly drunken females).
The language used by the males connotes youth and males because of how crude it is and the topics of which they discuss. Female body parts are a large part of the conversations of which the young males have whilst on the holiday. An example of a word used by Jay is ‘Clunge’ meaning ‘Boobs’ in their youth culture.
Within the text are a lot of half naked females. The females are commonly captured using close up or mid shot to flatter the features of which are being presented to the audience. As these are females, its aimed at mainly males (with the exception of homosexuals). This entices the male audience through the use of female parts on display and entertains the male audience through this. The camera work is a technical code of which is used in this instance to capture body parts.
The text represents male youths in negative way as it denotes excessive drinking, bad language and dirty minds. This connotes unruliness, bad manors and mischief. This tells us that when young males are out with their friends they get up to trouble and act in an inappropriate way which is not what all young males behave like- but it creates a negative stereotype.
The lighting is cleverly used in the text to capture the time of day of which the film is set in. An example is when the males go clubbing. It is dark which tells the audience that they are going clubbing at night time. This acts as a brilliant temporal marker. Enigma codes are also used when the beginning of a scene happens and there is no evidence to tell us where the males are or what’s going on/ what’s going to happen next. It leaves the audience waiting for a short while, pulling them in with wonder and excitement for the next hilarious act. The audience are left to guess. An example of this is when the beginning of the first club scene happens and we see a long-shot of the area around the males walking down the brightly illuminated road past all of the bars and clubs. This only tells us where the males are but not exactly what they’re going to do next. This acts as prime example of a geographical marker.
Music is played according to the scene of which the males are in at the time. For example, when the lads are clubbing music is played according to the club style (e.g. techno/ house music). The lights used in these scenes are low lighting as its meant to be dark to set the scene. Multi-coloured lighting adds realism to the scene as when you club its referred to as ‘partying’ meaning colours and good times. Colours connote to happiness and fun with relates to what getting drunk and going to a club connotes.
A good element of the film is the crude humour as mentioned previously. The crude humour is formed through the witty and rude comments made by the characters. As a young person myself, I can relate to this humour as the language used is that of modern day youth culture. This makes it more personal for young people to relate to and understand meaning it is appealing through the similarities aspect.
Another good element of the film is the order in which events occur as everything seems to have a domino effect. This is particularly funny as it demonstrates that each stage that they go through in the film has a cause/ effect logic. Cause and effect can play a part in the genre because as in this case, it can mean that as a result of a humorous element of the film, an even funnier event could occur after as so on.
What wasn’t good about the film was the over-the-top reference to females. It made females seem objectified by the males within the film. Objectifying has a negative effect on the thing that’s being objectified of because it makes them seem less like a person. When Neil exclaims ‘Its not cheating, only the tip went in’ to the other males, it shows his disinterest in his current girlfriend and lack of caring about morals. This makes woman appear like all they’re used for is their physical features and not for the emotional connection. In this case it demonstrates sexism.
The film in my opinion was very funny and as a comedy fan I believe it to have been a good film that can keep you laughing even after the film has ended. The shots were clear on what they wanted to audience to see meaning that if a close up shot was needed- it was included.
Some of the scenes in the film seemed unrealistic and over dramatized, however this made for an entertaining story overall therefore good has come from the bad. The scene were Simon ends up naked because he sold his clothes for money to pay for something is an example of one of the over-dramatized but equally funny scenes. Some of the scenes included behaviour of which people would be arrested for if it happened in real life such as the pink shirts with the writing on the back (paedophilic references- “MR. I fuck kids“).
The rating that I would give the film is a 4 star. The film is insanely funny and has a clear and concise target audience, however it does go over the top and as a 15 rated film it is too rude. It should be an 18 to make it more realistic, parents will not be happy with their 15 year old boys coming out with the knowledge and language learnt from this film. Too many incidents are coincidence, for example when Simon sees Carly- his ex lover- at every possible chance even though they are meant to be holidaying in another country with plenty of space to get away from her.
After watching the inbetweeners 2 shortly after, I would say that they are similar in the sense of crude language, however there is not as many objectifying references in the second movie. This could be because the purpose of the second one is secretly to find Jays lover- Jane. Another way in which the second movie relates to the first is that they contain the same characters and make the same amount of stupid mistakes that we all can laugh at, however the humour is more disgusting than crude. The inbetweeners 2 is a funnier movie as it takes the extremities of the first movie to the next level- targeting the more immature sector of males. Making references to excretion in the second movie, this backs up my point.
The inbetweeners is a will directed film, however it may have benefited from a few changes. If Carly- Simons ex lover- wasn’t brought into the film so much then more interesting things could have been covered in the film. The lads holiday part of the film could have been more widely emphasised. I felt that the Carly story dragged on too much through the episodes to carry on into the official movie.
The Wolverine Review
Josh Lee-Dawson
The Wolverine is set after X-Men the last stand and it follows Hugh Jackman again as 'Wolverine' the plot of the movie is Wolverine is summoned to Japan by an acquaintance for what Wolverine is a final goodbye for Wolverine saving his life back in World war 2 but 'Wolverine' does not know it but he is there for a more serious reason and throughout it Wolverine will face his demons.
The main actors in this movie are Hugh Jackman as 'Wolverine' and he plays this role brilliantly like he has for years when he needed to be gritty he was doing better than most people when he needed to be funny he when he needed to do anything you believed him as he was just such a believable actor. The other standout actor from this movie was from Svetlana Khodchenkova who plays as Viper she was brilliant all the way through she had to play and even villain who only cared about power and herself played it absolutely all the way through I was thinking what a sick monster who would do such things she just mad everything she done believable when basically nothing is in superhero movies.
The wolverine overall was a very good film but like most films it has a lot of flaws. Lets start with the story well the story overall is very interesting Wolverine goes to Japan so see a friend who is dying to say goodbye to him. But he doesn't know that he has been summoned here for another reason and that reason is a very interesting twist that gets you set for the rest of the movie and really gets you in the mood for the rest of the film. Now to one of the problems this movie overall is very good and there is a lot of action but at times this action is just too stop start and can really take you out the mood for example the typical final boss fight in superhero films. This boss fight was alright at best but the action was just too stop start and as a whole the fight was just very disappointing and i did leave the cinema after that feeling a little bit underwhelmed. What I do like about the film though is that we see the real Wolverine that did not come out in origins we saw him standing up for what was right and he was not afraid to let his anger out he and whereas we saw a little bit of it in wolverine we do saw the real Wolverine come out here gritty, angry, funny even sensitive when he needed to be. Throughout most of this film the CGI was good but at times the CGI, the green screens they just took away from the action a little bit taking you out of it once or twice but it never took you out of it for too long. The directing though was very good James Mangold really made you care for Wolverine he really did make you feel every emotion going through Wolverine a few more corrections and this movie would have been a lot better but I do think James Mangold was the right person for this movie he knew Wolverine inside out.
Overall this movie is very good the acting is very strong, the action is very good keeping you on the edge of your seat most of the time. Along with the story you just couldn't move your eyes away from the screen even when the CGI was ugly. Finally the directing made the film as good as it was and i believe if anyone else directed it would not have been as good.
