Representation of celebrities

Luis Suarez

This newspaper cover by The Sun represents Suarez as an animal, the photo used in this cover is the incident between Suarez and Italian defender Chiellini. The Sun would have chosen to brand Suarez as an animal due to this being his 3rd biting incident.
This is an article written by the Independent, again, this is after Suarez's incident involving Chiellini. The article suggests that Suarez is suffering with some sort of mental illness which is implied by the suggestion that he attends therapy in order to get to the bottom of why he's biting. The photo shown shows Suarez lying on the ground which could suggest that after this bite and his eventual 4 month ban, he's reached rock bottom in terms of his career.

This is an article headline from the Liverpool Echo. It show's Suarez's soft side and his charitable side since he's spent hours in Alder Hay hospital bearing gifts to all the children. It also suggests that the Suarez we see on the pitch who's racist, a cheat and an uncontrollable biting animal isn't the true Luis Suarez. The article also shows just how good of a footballer he is acting as if no effort went into the hat-rick that he scored later that day.
Finally, this is an article from Liverpool fan sight The Redmen TV. Here, Suarez is being called a football god, it show's how Liverpool fans look through all the bad things about him and love him for what he does. It also show' the difference in representations between Liverpool based articles from the Echo and fan pages to mainstream newspapers

FourFourTwo Magazine Analysis

FourFourTwo is a football magazine.  This magazine was published in April 2014 .

1. The masthead is "FourFourTwo" which is a connotation for perhaps the most known football formation "4-4-2". The font is very bold, red coloured and covers half the page. Due to the masthead being a formation which is a tactic in football. This could imply that it's implied audience is more grown up football fans who are interested in the tactical side of the game and what happens behind the scenes rather than just the visual spectacle. The strap line "exclusive Suarez unleashed! Liverpool's new God sets the record straight" could be used as a play on. The part of the strap line which could be seen as a play on is "Suarez unleashed!". Normally, when something has been unleashed, it normally refers to an animal. This could have been used as a reference to the fact he'd bitten 2 players at the time (now being 3) in PSV's Otman Bakkal and Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic which seen him get a combined 17 matches (a further 4 months for his 3rd incident).

The main image of the magazine is then Liverpool forward and Uruguayan International Luis Suarez. Suarez is without a doubt one of the most if not most hated footballers in the world, you either love him or hate him. So, with people either loving him or hating him, the magazine is almost guaranteed to generate some sort of reaction good or bad.

Media Homework-Genre Analysis

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The film trailer I have chosen is Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Star Wars is apart of the sci fi and adventure genres. The title helps emphasis why Star Wars is apart of the sci fi genre due to the words "the force", the force is the mythical power used by the "jedi" and the "sith". The adventure genre is shown by the use of spaceships in space, travelling into the unknown. The use of spaceship helps the audience know that they're watching a sci fi film as most sci fi films usually involve spaceships and travelling through space at the speed of light. Throughout the film, there is a Binary Opposition of light vs dark as scenes involving the jedi (good side) are bright and the lighting is well lit and scenes involving the sith are always dark. When you see the teased lightsaber duel between Finn and Kylo Ren, the presences of Kylo sends the trailer into darkness. The colour of the lightsabers also show the binary opposition of light vs dark because Finn has a light blue colour where as Kylo has a dark red colour. The soundtrack of the trailer also fit in with the sci fi genre. Typically, sci fi soundtracks feel "epic" and is performed by an orchestra. The trailer mostly uses wide shots to show off the setting and the battle between the spaceships and uses close ups to show the characters emotion (although you can't see Kylo Ren's due to him wearing a mask).

Media Diary Week 6

Guilty Pleasures

My guilty pleasure is Jeremy Kyle. Whenever the show is on the TV I just can't help but watch it. The people on the show are making absolute fools of themselves on national TV where the whole country is watching. People going on it to find out who stole their kids IPad, who's the father, how many times they've been cheated on. I watch the show purely to laugh at these pathetic people. I also like to watch it to remind myself to never ever, ever go down a path even the slightest bit like them or I'll end up like them with 3 teeth and 5 kids at the age of 23

The text that changed my life

The text that changed my life has to be when the truth about the Hillsborough disaster was finally told after 23 long years. All the lies that were told about the disaster were finally proven to be wrong and the victims names were finally cleared. Justice was finally on its way. As a Liverpool fan this news brought a greater satisfaction due to the fellow supporters of the club being represented in a negative way for something that wasn't their fault. The news also changed my view of the justice system and how no matter how long something goes with out justice, eventually it will come.

Media Diary week 3

Audience Classification

I am going to explain the audience of the Big Bang Theory. I assume that all people who watch the Big Bang Theory share an ideology that friendship is important their life since the show is about a group of friends who are constantly thrown into obstacles that only people of their friendship can survive for example (look away spoiler alert) before Leonard and Penny get married on the final episode of the 8th season, Leonard confuses he kissed another women while still in a relationship with Penny, due to their extremely close relationship, Penny is able to look at the bright side as they were not engaged then and forgives him. That show's the closeness of their friendship and relationship strength since any normal couple would of probably just broken up. I consider Big Bang to be apart of the the mainstream category due to its enormous fan base. The age group that would watch Big Bang are those in their late teens-mid twenties since the humor wouldn't attract anyone in their late twenties but those in their early teens wouldn't get. I feel like there are people who will watch the show purely to fit in with their friendship groups since all their friends will watch it.

Media Diary week 2

Name of text: Breaking Bad
Date/Time: couple of times a week around 8pm to wind down

Where did you find it: I'd heard about the show but never really had any intention of watching it until one of my friends recommended it to me and I'm glad he did

Genre: crime drama but also a thriller

What is the purpose: I feel the purpose is to purely entertain its audience with this never before scene plot

Institution producing the text: Vince Gilligan

Target Audience: Breaking Bad would target the explorer audience type since it's offering this new never before seen plot which is what the explorers seek the most.

Your reaction to the text: this show quickly entered my top 2 shows with it laying in 2nd place not far behind the big bang theory. I love the plot, the acting, the drama, the twists everything.

Why would people consume the text: people would consume this text for the same reason I do, it's just utter brilliance. They would also consume it now-a-days if they were apart of the mainstream audience since the show is now considered mainstream due to this explosion in popularity. People used to consume this show for the brilliance, now they just consume it to fit in if the rest of the crowd

Could some people react in different ways to the text? How?: there are people who could consider breaking bad boring as the plot runs as a very snail like pace so to be able to enjoy this show you have to have intense patience as "what happens next" sometimes doesn't happen for a number of episodes

Media Diary week 1

 Step Brothers

Step Brothers is a 2008 American slapstick comedy film starring Will Ferrell and John Reilly and directed by Adam McKay. Will stars as 39 year old Brennan Huff and John stars as 40 year old Dale Doback. Both men are unemployed, middle aged, spoiled, offensive, self-centered men who live and are reliant on their parents. They have absolutely no intention of moving out or even finding jobs. After Brennan's mother Nancy (played by Mary Steenburgen) marries Dale's father Robert (played by Richard Jenkinson), Brennan and Dale are both forced to live together. The first rule that Dale lays on Brennan is too never touch his drum set. However, while Dale is out one day Brennan decides to play on his drum set. After Dale returns, he notices that there's a chip in his left drumstick and accuses Brennan of touching his drums, after a strong argument, Brennan runs up the stairs after saying to Dale "I'm gonna go put my nutsack on your drum set" and proceeds to do so. I feel this film appeals to me since I tend to laugh at very immature jokes that any normal person wouldn't laugh at. Another example of this is when Robert sets them up with interviews, they go there dressed in tuxedos and request to be interviewed as a team. In the final interview, in looks like they're about to finally get a job after so many failed interviews, Dale lets out a fart. Again, with my very immature sense of humor i find that scene hysterical. One of my favorite scenes from the film is when Dale and Brennan attempt to start up their own company called "Prestige Worldwide" in which they premiere their first music video called "Boats N Hoes" (which got stuck in my head for about a week the first time I heard it) during which it shows them accidentally crashing Roberts boat. This causes Robert to divorce Nancy and blames it all on Brennan and Dale. They both get into a fight over who's fault it was and decide to go their separate ways. My other favorite scene is when Dale and Brennan return to the park and brawl with looks like around 45 children as they gain revenge from an earlier attack on them earlier in the film in watch Brennan was forced to like white dog poo.

I feel the type of people who would watch this film would be around 13-18 years old and maybe older depending on their sense of humor. I also feel that the gender that would watch this film more are males since there are a lot of jokes made which mainly teenage boys would find funny. The film has been given a 5.5/10 score from film review website Rotten Tomatoes, however, from my point of view I feel this film is 98 minutes (105 for the unrated edition) of pure comedy gold
