Representation Of Women In Adverts

The women used in this advert are meant to be representing the 'everyday' women and they are meant to be showing the idea that adverts don't always use glamorous models to advertise their product such as male up. The fact that all the women used in the advert are a range of ages helps to make the advert relatable and makes the audience members of any ages feel like they can look as good as them with this product.

The encoders chose the sound track "sexy lady" by Jessie J to co-inside with the ideology of the advert as the make up is meant to make the women feel better about them sleeves and feel like they look better as well and the song is about looking and feeling good about yourself and the women look like they are happy and feeling good about themselves which then portrays a positive ideology to the audience about the product and helps them to want to buy it.

The audience for this advert would be women of all ages however, the use of the women in this advert are used to represent women of different ages as normally in make up adverts they use young female models who aren't accurate representations of the audience watching them so these women challenges audiences expectations of thinking there's going to be a young female model for the advert instead of the women actually used.

This advert backs up the stereotype of women wanting to look and feel good all the time and also their love for make up and fashion  as all the women in this advert are wearing make up and are dressed in high trend fashion.

Psycho Essay

Throughout the opening scenes of the movie, multiple enigma codes are used to engage the audience and motivate the main character into action.
The movie begins with Marion and Sam in a hotel room. Sam is awaiting a divorce between him and his first wife and as a result Marion is almost his mistress until he can pay the fee for the divorce. Following on from this scene we then see Marion in work and we meet a rather obnoxious and horrible rich man, who gives Marion a lot of money to DEPOSIT for him. After this we see the money on her bed, then the camera slowly pans to her packing a suitcase then back to the money. This enigma code makes the audience question where she is going and what she is doing with the money. It engages the audience and makes them continue watching. As well as this the use of the non diegetic sound during this scene also builds up suspense as it starts of quiet but fast paste and then gets quicker an deeper as the camera pans from the close-up of the money and then over to the suitcase and then to Marion looking at the money.
Hitchcock uses multiple implications and enigma codes through the film. Norman mentions taxidermy on multiple occasions and stuffing 'dead things'. This could be seen as foreshadowing Marion's future. This builds tension because it makes the audience question why anyone would bring up a conversational topic such as stuffing 'dead things'. Also, when talking about the institution Norman is able to describe it in detail, this again makes the audience question how he knows the detail and if he has been in the institution himself and if so,what for.

From the very beginning of the movie the camera forces the audience to identify with Marion's character, because every scene up until the 'Shower Scene' Marion is in every single shot and there are hundreds of close -up shots of her. This forces us to identify with her because we see so much of her, When we do not see close-ups of Marion we see things from her point of view, for example when she is driving away from the police officer after she has fallen asleep in her car. The camera shots change from a close up of Marion to looking in her rear view mirror, at the police officer as she drives away, so we identify with her again because we are seeing her life from her point of view. In all of the close ups of Marion, the main features we focus on are her eyes. This may be because 'the eyes are the windows to the soul' and the audience may try to figure out her emotion and what she is going to do, continue to steal the money, or do the 'right' thing and give it back as while the close-up of her is on we hear the digetic sound of the voices in head as she imagines what everyone back home would say about what she has done.

After the murder of Marion, we are then forced to identify with Norman's character because the camera shots follow a similar style, with close up shots and point of view shots but from Norman's point of view instead now. We have approximately a 5 minute sequence whereby the audience is positioned in Norman's point of view, while he cleans up the murder scene and Marion's body, this forces us to identify with his character. As well the final shot of the movie before the credits is a close up of him, where we see his facial expression representing the 'mother' side of him speaking. This close up is effective because it shows his contorted smile makes Norman look really sinister, like the actions he carries out. The fact he breaks the fourth wall and looks directly into the camera at the audience leaves them feeling vulnerable and exposed.

The use of black and white makes this film altogether thrilling and horrifing. The dark and shadowy nature makes it seem very more creepy and sinister because darkness has connotations of evil, danger and also seriousness and death. Also the color scheme fits the genre of a thriller because it is supposed to be chilling and creepy. The use of black and white also makes the film feel much more classic because many of the first films were filmed in black and white, even the first ever colour movie, The Wizard Of Oz, uses black and white. The fact there is no colour also removes the audience slightly, because audiences do not see in black and white, therefore it may make the gory 'Shower Scene' much less threatening because we cannot see the colour of the blood, which in it's self creates a thrilling, horrifing scene for viewers to see.

The non-diegetic music used throughout parts of  film is very orchestral and high pitched, this creates tension because generally music is used to signify to an audience when something is about to happen. Therefore the music in this thriller creates tension and builds the audience up for something dramatic and shocking which is about to happen or when a character is about to find something dramatic out. Particularly in the shower scene the music is very sharp and in short loud bursts. This again adds dramatic tension because it is like the whole killing was planned all along, right down to matching the beats of the music. The shots of the murder are in a sort of montage and are very short and snappy. This disorientates the audience because we don't know what we are going to see next or which bit of Marion we are going to be exposed to, again this makes it a chilling thriller.

Hitchcock challenges and surprises the audiences expectations in regards to the role of characters by reversing the roles they are expected to be. For example, Marion, the lead female role would be expected to be the 'princess' or the 'damsel in distress' however Hitchcock challenges this expectation of her as she steals money and also she is sleeping with a 'technically' married man and both of these things are the opposite to what Marion's character is seen to do. The character of Norman is represented as the 'hero' as he lets Marion stay in the motel for the night and looks after her by making her something to eat and he also helps her to realise she has done something wrong an she decides to turn back and go home the next day.

One of the ideologies that may come through in this movie is the idea that 'What goes around comes around, but maybe worse.' For example. Marion stole money which is wrong, so as a result she endured something painful, as a payback for doing something wrong. Another ideology exposed in this film could be that 'loneliness makes you crazy' because Norman has been on his own in that house for years and now he's lost his mind and is a killer. 

Genre Essay homework 

The film i am going to analyse is 'Blended', it is a hybrid genre; romantic, family, comedy. The plot of the film is a single mum with two sons is looking for a man after getting divorced and a single father with three daughters is looking for a women to help him rise his daughters and the two main characters played are set up on a blind date which goes horribly wrong. however, they both get the chance of a life time to go to Africa but the twist is that they both don't know the other one is going and they end up meeting at the resort and are forced to spend their remaining time there together and eventually the start to fall in love and they end up together by the end.

the main two characters are Jim and Lauren, Jim is a typical man who works all day however he is also a full time dad to his three daughters as his wife died so he was left to look after them all but when it comes to looking after three girls of all different ages he starts to find it very difficult. Lauren is also a full time parent for her two sons however se is divorced from her husband and is focused on juts her job and her sons but. nth characters are very relatable as a lot of audience members can relate to their situations as they are just living ordinary working lives. The children brendan, tyler, ESPN, hillary and lou are the stock characters that bring the humour into the film as they are young children/teenagers and everything they do embarrasses their parents or gets them into trouble which makes the parents more relatable as audiences members who have children can relate to their children also getting into trouble in public places and embarrassing them. they also help move the narrative by assisting the main characters (their parents) in stopping them from getting together as they don't want to have a new family.

the film starts of set in a suburban city in america where both the families live and work, but then they go on holiday to Africa and the majority of the fpm is filmed there until the en when they have to leave and go back home. at the beginning in the suburban city the whether is calm and sunny and the area is very clean and it looks expensive to live there which could suggest that people living there have very good jobs that pay well which doesn't make the characters completely readable to everyone watching the tim as not everyone has good enough jobs or lives in nice, clean suburban areas, and in Africa the whether is very sunny and hot and the resort that they all stay in is very family friendly as there is a play area for all the little kids and then there is a restaurant for where the adults can sit and relax and enjoy entertainment and eat whatever they want which is a typical setting for a family resort somewhere however its not very relatable unless you have  been on holiday as a single parent with your children.

The equilibrium is the two single parents with children to look after and they don't know how to react in certain situations as the single mum has two sons and the single dad has three daughters.The disruption of the narrative is when the two families are both offered the same trip but they don't know that they both are planning on going. The recognition of the disruption in the text is when the families run into each other at the resort and find out they have to share a room and spend the hole trip together.In an attempt to repair the disruption the two single parents decide to go along with everything and deal with all the situations in their own way and do their own separate things unless they have to be together.The reinstatement of equilibrium is at the end when the two families come together as the parents realise they are in love and should be together.All of these are the typical narrative developments of romantic comedies as they all have similar narratives with just change of character types.

The music in the trailer starts of as a simple pop soundtrack like most romantic comedies have as it represents the time period the movie is set in, however, once the trailer gets to just over 2 minutes the music plays in small quick clips of different pop songs with each close up of each person at the table when they see hillary the oldest daughter walking to the table after having a make over to show their different reactions and emotions towards her and her new look. The stars who feature in this film are Adam Sandler who is a very well-known actor who does a lot of comedies and is a big influence with the comedy side of the film, another really well-known actor in the movie is Drew Barrymore; even though she is more famous for doing more serious romantic dramas she also brings and element of comedy to the film which surprises the audience as they don't expect her to be as funny as she is, the use of these big time actors is what helps attracts more audience members as fans of these actors will see them in the trailer and might decide to go see the film and they might also see that it is a romantic comedy and seeing the pairing of Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore will make them think that it is unusual for two completely different actors to be in this romantic comedy and they will go see it. The director Frank Coraci has directed a lot of Adam Sandler movies so it was no surprise that he directed this movie as well.

My guilty pleasure is watching Jeremy Kyle after college sometime. Jeremy Kyle is a British and American talk show where ordinary people from the public contacting the show to come on to sort out any issues they have and most of the time they are quite shocking and unusual stories. The target audience for the text is people who are home nearly all day and have nothing better to do then watch tv because this is the type of talk show that once you hear what they are talking about, you want to know more about that story and watch the different reactions of the studio audience and Jeremy Kyle himself. It also makes you feel like you are in the studio audience as you can sometimes find either yourself or whoever you see watching it, talking to the tv like they are in the studio. I think i take a prefered reading to this text as i watch it for the purpose it was made for which is to entertain the audience with the wired and random stories that people come on the show with.

The first text I am going to analyse is the 'Big Bang Theory' tv show. It is an American tv sitcom about 4 scientists and their lives. The tv show fulfils the entertainment and social interaction uses of the gratification model. It's purpose is to entertain and make you laugh by making the lives of the characters based around normal life situations but emphasised more to make them seem more funny and entertaining to the audience. The purpose of a sitcom like this is to make the audience laugh but this show also fulfils the social interaction needs as it's such a well known show that everyone talks about it and because it is so funny some people try to copy the ideas from the show in real life situations, because of some of the high level vocabulary and the normal life settings used some people try to think they could maybe be the characters or they name people in their friendship group after the characters in the show. This fulfils the social interaction gratification use more as if you don't watch the show you wont know what your friends are going on about and you might look like the odd one out of the group.

 

 



The second text I am going to analyse is another American tv sitcom called 'How I Met Your Mother'. Like the previous text this one fulfils social interaction gratification needs as it is another well known tv show that anyone can enjoy and loads of people talk about, also you might want to watch the show so you can fit in with your social group so you don't look like the odd one out when they talk about it or mention anything or reference anything from the show. The purpose of this text is to entertain you as it is a tv show however, because of the narratives used throughout the show the personal identity gratification as the set up of the group (3 men and 3 women) is relatable, furthermore the different story lines that the group go through are also relatable to the audience and because of this the audience can form close tenors with the characters and they could say that they act/look like the characters.

'Glamour' magazine changed my idea on the world of fashion and how to dress. Before I read 'Glamour' magazine I dressed completely different and I didn't like the idea of clothes shopping but after reading it for the first time I realised how much I actually like fashion and how much fun clothes shopping is. Also I didn't use to wear make-up but after reading this magazine I decided to start wearing it as it influenced me that if you wear make-up you can feel more confident and look better and know that is how i feel when I wear make-up and when I don't wear it I feel vulnerable and not very confident. It made me start to read magazine more often as I enjoy looking at the fashion and make-up tips and I also enjoy the gossip in the gossip magazines and the weird stories they print. This magazine could have the same impact on other audience members like me as they might also enjoy the fashion and make-up tips given and the gossip and wired and funny stories in the other types of magazines not just this one.

 I watched this in the cinema with my friends on the weekend. The film is a romantic drama. The purpose of this text is to entertain you and it's target audience is mainly young teenage girls as they are stereotyped to enjoy watching this type of genre of films as they seem to be able to relate to the situation in the film. Also the target audience could be the mainstreamers as the might be familiar with the situation of the film and would find it easily relatable. My reaction to the text was stereotypical of my audience type as I fit the category of the target audience for this text. People would consume this text for the need of entertainment purposes. Different audience members would act differently to this text for example because it is a romantic drama one of the main type of audience members would be young couples on a date and both of those audience members would react differently as the girl would most likely cry and enjoy the film were as the boy might not enjoy the film as much and only agreed to go for the sake of his girlfriend.



Media Dairies- Different audience groups.

There are many different types of audience groups that media producers look at so they know who to will be there target audience. They look at 6 categories of different audience members would fall

into, these 6 categories are based of off peoples occupations or social lives which doesn't give proper evaluation of the audience.

The first group is A, this is mainly upper/middle class people; bankers, lawyers and doctors. Media producers think of these people as being very rich and high in class so 

there products are made to aim towards these people, things like high end fashion magazines which are quite expensive.

The next group of audience members is B, these are mainly middle class people such as teachers and graphic designers etc. The products or texts aimed at thee people wouldn't be to expensive but wouldn't be cheap either.

The next two groups C1 and C2 are lower class and skilled workers such as nurses, plumbers and builders.These people are seen as quite poor so any products aimed towards them are quite cheap 

however, even though they might not be as rich as the other groups it doesn't mean that 

the products or texts aimed for the other groups could appeal to them as well.

The last two groups are group D and E which are the unskilled workers and old pensioners or students these people are in the lowest groups because they are seen as not as 

important or as rich as the other people higher up in the groups. However just because they might not earn anything or not a lot they still could appeal to the products or texts aimed at the other groups.

Overall in my opinion i think that even though it might help and be easier to organise these audience 

members into these groups it doesn't take into account a individuals situation as someone might

of lost their job or someone who won the lottery. Also the group E is too broad as it covers

to many different people at once and also the class system in the 21st century is unclear and

completely different from when this list was made.

Media Diary- Reviews

This is a review on the hit new film Fault In Our Stars directed by Josh Boone.

Fault In Our Stars is based on the book by John Green; Hazel and Gus
Are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disclaim for the 
Conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey.
Their relationship is all the more miraculous given that Hazel's other
Constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg,
And they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. Hazel is a teenage girl who
Has been living with cancer since she was 13 and constantly has to carry a oxygen tank
With her to help her breathe better, however, on the other hand, Gus has a 
Prosthetic leg as his actual one got amputated but the only reason he meets Hazel at the 
Support group is because he is there for his half blind friend Isaac as he is in need of support
Before another major surgery which leaves him completely blind and disrupts his love life.

The main characters are Hazel, Gus and Issac as the main focus is their friendship,
But there are also other characters that effect the story of the film, E.G: Frannie (Hazel's mum), Michael (Hazel's dad), Van Houten (Hazel's favourite author who she 
Despritally wants to meet), Lidewij (Van Houten's assistant), Dr. Maria (tells Hazel that she can't fly to Berlin until she is feeling better). All these different characters effect the story and the main characters lives in someway or another for example because Isaac becomes completely blind he relays on the assistance of his best friend Gus and Hazel's to help Gide him round and to also get over his ex girlfriend, also Frannie has a big impact on Hazel as she convinces her to keep going to the support group where she meets Gus and she also shows the audience how mothers in her postion act and feel towards their children.

The film covers a list of different themes such as love, friendship, loyalty, trust, dreams, hope and illness. As the film goes on you start to create a tenor with the characters 
As the story is very relatable to a lot of people's past or present expierences in life also it shows how teenagers feel about fitting in and finding love and dealing with heart break serious
Problems. The text is'nt the typical Hollywood blockbuster movie with special effects, it's actually quite simple and easy to context with and doesn't loose you in any situation and because the audience creates a tenor with the characters it makes them feel the same as the characters, also the cinematography has a big influence on how the audience feels
For example the main camera angles used are medium long shots and close ups which shows the diferent body languages and facial expressions the characters are using which then influences the audience to feel the same. For example: when Hazel and Gus
Meet for the first time on their way to the support group there is a medium long shot of them bumping into eachother and then imeditally goes to a close up of the two characters to show that their facial expressions towards bumping into eachother but also to 
Show that they think the other looks attractive and they both smile to try and be friendly to eachother since they just knocked into eachother. 

In conclusion i give this film a 5 star rating. In my opinion i like how the film is very relatable to the audiences life and i think that the actors did a brilliant job bringing the characters 
To life and making them seem relatable. I also like how they manage to use humour whilst still going back to the main serious point of living with cancer and how it affects everyone not just the person with it. Some of the pros of the film are that it teaches the audience about cancer and what life is like living with it or living with someone who has it and how they go about 
Dealing with diferent situations. It also in my opinion teaches the audience a life lesson that 
If you believe in your dreams and work hard at achieving them and have hope they might one day come true for example Hazel's dream of meeting Van Houten finally comes true but doesn't 
Turn out how she imagined it, furthermore it also gives the audience the message that
Life isn't worth wasting and you should live it to its fullest and have fun with the people you love. There isn't many cons to this text in my view the only bad thing is that in the end it's about teenagers dealing with massive decisions and problems whilst also juggling a normal
(As they can get it) social life and being happy and that even though the characters might
Be a little sarcastic at times there is still the seriousness of the diferent illnesses they all have.

Except for the very few cons overall the film is a most see of the year it will make you laugh, make you cry, make you rethink your life and make you realise how easy some people have it to others. In my personal opinion i think if you love soppy romantic drama films then this is the film for you!

I chose this picture to represent lines & shapes because it the angle of the picture allows you to able to see all the different shapes and lines of the bridge.

Rule Of Thirds

This picture is a good representation of rule of thirds because it shows the were the main point of interests are and the different sections of the rule of thirds. For example the bottom third is just the bridge and little bit of the sea ad then the middle section shows the end of the bridge and the sea however because of the angle it is it looks like the bridge and the sea is never ending. then the top part is just the sky to show what type of light is surrounding the area.

I think that this picture is a perfect representation of light & shade because the man's face isn't shown because of the darkness which could hint maybe a bit of mysteriousness a bit him however the light shows his hat and the pool table to maybe hint something about him.

I chose this picture to represent cropped because it is a close up of a cat and in my opinion i think that there is a reason why the picture has been cropped this close up to the face.

Skewed

I chose this picture to represent skewed because the angle of the picture makes it look like the man is walking up a hill when he actually isn't.
