Ways in which young people are represented in the media.
The youth population is represented in many different ways through a variety of different media platforms. One way that the youth are represented in the media is through archetypes. An example of an archetype used within the media is the typical high school nerd used within the popular comic book series of 'The Amazing Spiderman', with the main character Peter Parker. This archetype is used for the audience to gather a better understanding of the main character in a short amount of time and builds expectations around this character. These expectations are either met or challenged to help develop the character further from the archetype originally used to show the characters personality and traits.
Another way in how the youth are represented in the media is through mediation, this is best shown through the 'reality' TV program Sun, sex and suspicious parents. As most reality programs, even though they sell their unique selling point of it being true reality. This isn't entirely correct, as it will have been edited and much more will have been left out than actually shown. We're also shown different angles that convey different emotions to what might actually might be getting said or done. The main focus of this mediation is to show the teenagers on the show, as sex craved (also shown through the title of the show), alcoholics who don't care about the responsibilities that they have to hold. This also plays with one of the stereotypes associated with the youth, this being that teenagers don't care about others and only wish to party. As people know of this stereotype they'll tune in to have their expectations of this stereotype met through the mediation used on the program.
Finally another example of the youths representation within the media is through ideology. This is shown through the film trailer 'Shank'. From the title choice referring to the the London slang of getting stabbed. Already connotes knife crime, which is also heavily associated with today's youth due to the rise of knife crime in the UK. The trailer also shows our main characters, who all look like teens and are all affiliated with gangs. Through the trailer we see the directors ideologies put into it. That being that most young teens, fall into the wrong group and get affiliated with gangs and end up committing crimes against society, mainly knife crimes. Another possible ideology that the director might of intended is that most of these teens who fall into these gangs are black, but this is up for debate whether this is either a racist view or a comment of what society is truly like within London. Also showing youth through another way and that being through comments on current society as this film trailer seems to use both ideology and society to express it's view on the youth.

Psycho analysis essay
‘Psycho’
Directed by: Alfred Hitchcock
Starring:
Anthony Perkins-Norman Bates
Janet Leigh-Marion Crane
John Gavin-Sam Loomis
Martin Balsam-Milton Arbogast
The film starts with an establishing shot over the city in black and white, a caption telling us the location that being "Phoenix, Arizona", followed by "Friday, December the Eleventh" and finally "Two forty-three P.M." This is the equilibrium of the film, placing the audience in where all the events will transpire. However, what the previous text before this eludes the audience to think that normal everyday life is taking place. The city is shown in broad daylight, with nothing unordinary to be seen. This sense of familiarity makes the audience feel like they’re in a relatable area, and that we can identify with the characters that we’ll soon come to meet.
Behind the caption of text is an oversight of Phoenix, Arizona; we see variety of buildings and skyscrapers. The camera begins to track forwards to one of the skyscrapers, the audience now know because of this track shot that the story will begin within this window as it also focuses on this window as well, it tracks forward and enters into the bedroom. When we see into the room we are presented with a couple both on the bed, Marion Crane and her partner, Sam Loomis (John Gavin). From meeting these two characters we know that these characters that we’ll be identifying with. From this point the film centres its self entirely on Marion, until that is when she gets brutally murdered. Hitchcock establishes that Marion and Sam are having an affair, but do not want any outsiders knowing. We learn that both characters do have their own individual thoughts, Marion wanting to be with Sam entirely and Sam wanting to pay off his debts, from learning their motives we become emotionally invested in these two characters, and the director's initial intention for the audience to support and root for them, and hope they have their happy ever after ending.
As Marion and Sam make a plan to get married, the audience becomes more intrigued by their story, and the Hitchcock inserts a narration device for which he was popular of using the ‘red herring’: at this point of the film has been shown and told as if it were a romantic film, with the enigma questions being raised "Will they end up together?” “Will they fail to be together?” making the audience wanting to know more. We cut to see Marion at work, talking to her colleague and her boss entering with a client. This signifies the normal everyday life for Marion, suggesting that something is about to happen and that’ll change the course of film. When Marion is handed $40,000 by the client and asked to put it in the safe, Marion realises that she can solve all of her and Sam’s problems and takes the opportunity to take the money, but the audience don’t get notified of Marion’s intentions until we see her packing to leave. Although this is effectively stealing and is a crime because of we've stayed with Marion up until the point she died we can't help but identify with Marion.
Through the film we’re stuck with a restricted narration of the film as we never learn more than the characters do, we get to identify more with our characters, an example of this that Hitchcock has used is the POV shot we get when Marion is leaving Phoenix in her car, we see out of the window screen as she is. When Marion is driving through the rain, we struggle to see ahead, Marion is shown having the same difficulty when showing a close up of her face in the car, because of our lack of vision we are disorientated, this forces the audience to identify with Marion’s perspective. The frequent use of ECU and CU on Marion and we don’t get this at all with the other characters, forcing us to identify with Marion. Due to all of these close ups we always look into Marion’s eyes, the eyes are always associated as the window to our souls and Hitchcock takes advantage of this and expresses Marion’s emotions throughout the film, and again always invading her personal space and always feel more intimate with Marion. The ECU are also used to show all of Marion’s emotions through her facial expressions as well, as we’re so close to Marion’s face we don’t and can’t get distracted from her background or objects that surround around her.
At the Bates Motel, we see that Marion comes to turns with what she’s done and want to return the $40,000 she stole after speaking with Norman Bates, the owner of the Bates hotel. Hitchcock uses the red herring again, even after already using this technique at this part of the film, the audience thought that this was still a romance story but with acts of crime to fulfil the happy ending that we predict. Now seeing that she’s changed her mind to return the money reflects that she is actually good and wants to do what’s right, this makes us identify with her even more as we now see the good-natured and respectable character that she is.
It is at this point that the film when the shock twist happens and our identification with Marion is destroyed. Marion decides to take a shower, so that she can wash away all of her sins and feel pure again. The audience are positioned in MCU of Marion in the shower, not revealing her entirely, but again shown her face so that we get to see her gestures and facial expressions. She seems to be enjoying her time in the shower, from this it looks like something from an average normal day. Hitchcock subsequently employs shock tactics in showing a silhouette of a person approach the shower curtain, slowly and drawn out to build suspense and tension. While Marion doesn't know of the presence that has entered the bathroom, this is intended to shock the audience again draws up enigma codes surrounding the main question "Who is that?” For the first time in the film we’re not focused on Marion, but instead with this mystery character with who we nothing about hinting to that we will soon identify with this mysterious question. As the shower curtain is torn back we’re shown a silhouetted figure who then begins to stab Marion, we then get shown a series of jump cuts, focusing on each and every individual stab in to Marion. During this horrific and graphic scene, which is now considered one of the most iconic scenes within film history, even to this day! Once we see the aftermath of the silhouetted figures murder and escapes, we’re shown Marion's dead body, as it pours blood down the plughole. We then go to an ECU of Marion’ eye as it shows no emotion and looks lifeless, just like her body remains.
Marion's death comes as a shock as we've spent so long identifying with this character just to see her die goes against normal film conventions, and then forces the audience to then identify with another character after her death, this being Norman Bates. Automatically assuming that it was his mother that killed Marion, Norman then puts in a ridiculous amount time and effort to cover her tracks and to make sure that her crime will never be found out. From throwing the car into the nearby swamp we start to identify with Norman through his gestures and facial expressions as we don’t receive any dialogue for about ten minutes, so as the audience we get positioned in an awkward situation as he’s doing the right thing in protecting his mother, but from her illegal actions that making it wrong. Especially after the murder of Arbogast, the story and narration eventually blossoms and furthermore explains the title being "psycho" As we learn that Norman is actually psychotic and is actually his mother.
The use of black-and-white in this film perhaps is another visual metaphor, showing that everyone has their good side, associating with the colour white as white is always represents pure and good and that everyone also has a much darker side than revealed to the public as black is always associated with darkness and evil. This is shown this through Norman Bates. Although Norman is the actual villain and murder of the film, the murders were done by the other side of his mind his mother, whom he believes is another person and not a figure of his imaginary. This split personality is reflected within the choice of making the film in black-and-white. As the colours are opposites too each other this is represented again with the different types of personalities that Norman shows through this film. One being a small motel owner who doesn't seem too concerned in the lack of business and loves his mother. But the other persona is his mother, and follows the opposite of what Norman is in being psychotic, crazed and doesn't appreciate the other persona Norman. With the two contrasting colours represents that both of Normans persona's are always conflicting.
Genre Essay: The Expendables
The movie trailer that I've chosen is ' The Expendables' (2010) this film is a action and adventure film but is mainly a big action blockbuster film directed by Sylvester Stallone. How we can define that this is a action and adventure film is to look at the aspects this includes all the things that happen on screen and off from it's stars to its editing. This film is a typical action blockbuster and I'll prove that it fits into this genre by picking apart factors of this advert and then analysing them.
This movie is most recognisable for it's stars and this trailer highlights this. From the get go we are shown these iconic action hero's from the 70's and 80's coming back together for another action flick, but not only old action stars appear within this film but also modern action stars feature in this too. This already tells us that this is an action film as the regular typecast actors feature within this film, as well as the director himself, Sylvester Stallone who's always been in the action genre for his acting and directing career. Also throughout the trailer we get shown the typical action packed set up for the mis-en-scene that being the big and loud explosions, the props being military weapons such as all types of guns and knifes. Also within the trailer it features an 'epic' voice over describing our hero's as our last hope at getting rid of the terrorist threat that threatens the world today, also the usage of a threat against the 'good guys' of the world is also a generic storyline used in most big blockbuster action films. Another signifier that this is a blockbuster is the audio that is played through the trailer is big, loud and dramatic, this is to establish that all the action within the film is these things as well and is very typical of these types of action films to use this type of music. The setting shown in this trailer is a very modern outlook at what the modern battlefield looks like during it's action scenes throughout this trailer. Each blockbuster action film shows what the current battlefield looks like during their time in society. This is a typical move for action films as it shows the public eyes what it actually looks like in the battlefield, again proving that this film must fit the action genre as it follows this technique. The shot types used in this film are quite generic to any film; close ups on our heros, mid or long shots for the villains and wide shots to fully capture the explosions, even though with this generic types of shots used within this film we can still tie this with the action genre as these also follow these generic shot types and as said earlier that this film is near enough apart of the said genre.
Within this trailer we can see that the editing is fast paced and shows a lot of scenes in a short amount of time when showing the action scenes, to show more of the action and get a broader view of the big action scenes and see them in different views and the fast paced is used to give a feeling of adrenaline and pure action from this as if it was slow it wouldn't have as much of an effect. This technique is used in all types of films that contain any action in them, this shows that this film perfectly fits for the big action crazed blockbuster genre. The plot of this film shown by the trailer is a generic and typical action flick plot. The hero's group together against what seems like an impossible foe who are threatening the world and it looks like a suicide mission for our hero's, this type of plot always fits the description of the blockbuster action film and why it never changes is because the audience who enjoy these types of films are the ones who enjoy their expectations being met and knowing that our hero's will claim victory and save the day. This trailer also leaves questions for the audience to think and wonder about such as do the hero's beat the terrorists? Do they survive? What happens if they didn't? These are left in the minds of the audience and then want to go and watch it to get these questions answered and these are typically the questions what action films leave for the audience to make them want to go and watch the film, again showing that this film fits straight into the action genre and shows that this trailer and film are apart of this genre.
Media diary: week 6
My guilty pleasure is watching Spongebob Squarepants from time to time. Spongebob Squarepants is an American cartoon sponge who lives in a city called bikini bottom and gets into different hilarious situations each episode. The target audience for this is children as it has childish humour and comedy throughout the show. Me personally I don't watch the newest series or anything I go back to the classic episodes which I watched when I was younger. I go back and watch these to remember how much I enjoyed these episodes and how the newer episodes have made the cartoon worse over time. I don't consume other children cartoon shows, because I only watch Sponegbob for the purpose of entertainment and nostalgia, as even from now I still find the childish humour and clever writing amusing and even laugh out loud to the hysterical comedy that happens throughout the episodes.

Doctor Who
I believe that the Sci-fi TV series Doctor Who fulfils the gratification for Entertainment. The story of Doctor who is an alien known as the Timelords, but "The Doctor" is the last of his race. Now inhabiting Earth he gains a companion to join him on his adventures through time and space using "The Tardis" to do so. Did I also mention that it's bigger on the inside than the outside?
I think that this TV series caters to the gratification of Entertainment with a hooking story which hangs on throughout the each season. Memorable characters who never leave us even after their departure as well as the clever humour that always makes us chuckle. This TV series isn't intended to fulfil our Personal Identity, Information or Social Interaction needs, as it isn't a reality show nor a documentary but we can learn some things from this program as it's a Sci-fi series so we will slightly pick up small things from the series, but this isn't the intention of the program. Viewers could relate to the characters in the series but these characters always end up in impossible situations, so relating to these characters isn't the main intention of the series. As for socialising it's possible to socialise about this series as everyone who watches this program would want to talk and socialise about this program. But this isn't the full intention of the TV series. I feel that this series targets the "Mainstream" audience as it's a very popular TV series and would attract this audience because of it's popularity and reputation.Indie game-the Movie
I believe that this documentary about a group of game makers fulfils our gratification for Information. This is because this documentary shows us the a couple "indie" game designers who throughout the movie we watch them go through the ups and downs of making their games and how they made them. This fulfils our gratification for information as it gives us inside detail about how and why these selected few made their games and what they had went through and had to sacrifice to do so. I don't think that this documentary isn't intended to fulfil our Personal Identity, Entertainment or Social Interaction needs as these aren't the intended gratifications what was aimed by this film, and because it's a documentary this is especially aimed at the information gratification due to it's genre of film. I feel that this film targets the "Explorer" audience as it's a very different type of documentary, as well as it looks at not a very popular genre of game that being indie games. As well as a growing game category and not that popular this is why I'd think that the explorer is the target audience.
Media Diary: Week 4
The text that changed my life
The text that I'd have to say changed my life was the original Spiderman film which came out in 2002. I'd say that this had the biggest impact on my life as it's currently helped me decided what I'd want to do as a future career. When I fist watched it I thought it was a great film, even though I was only 4 I still loved every second I spent watching it. Eventually when the second instalment came out I had realised, just how popular Spiderman became to be. So I started to collect the comic books, by doing so I started to love the idea, story and everything about it really.
I then started to research the origins of Spiderman and found out that it originally started on a different comic series known as the amazing fantasy series, after a while it became so popular that it got it's own comic books series now know as the Amazing Spiderman, over time as popularity grew so did what media texts it covered. From only appearing in comic books to growing slowly over time to becoming to as big as it is now today, having TV and Film series.
The reason I'd say that this has changed my life is that I know that Spiderman would of originally started out as a idea and is now one of the most popular things created by marvel. By this example I believe that I might be able to do the same thing and be able to actually showcase my idea's, my imagination and to make it as big as marvel have done has with there idea's. This is why I have chosen the first Spiderman film as the text that changed my life. Because if it weren't for that film I wouldn't of realised what my ambition was at an earlier stage and be able to work on it now.

media diary: week 3
The media text I have chosen for this week is FIFA 15. I have chosen this media text as it has recently just came out and I have been playing it since it's came out.
The Income/Status model
I believe that the target audience for people the Income/Status model would most likely be class D, the working class and class E the non workers and the low earning workers. I think this text targets these classes as they have the most free time to play on FIFA, than the other groups would, as they'd have to concentrate on more work. As well as a massive majority of people in these groups will be fans of football meaning that they'd enjoy FIFA and relate as they can play with their favoured teams and play friends or by themselves and to do this they'd need free time outside of work to do these things.
Audience profiling
To be able to follow the Audience profiling model we'd have to create an ideal audience member who'd want this product. Our fictional audience member would be male as most football fans are males. The age of our audience member would most likely be in his teen years or young adult as generally it's these age groups which mostly play video games and have the free time to do so.
The 4C's
For the 4C's model I believe that the target audience would be the 'Mainstream' as FIFA is a very popular games making it a trend in this genre of media. People also just buy this game just so that other people wouldn't think of them any differently meaning that they could be 'Aspires' as they follow others opinions and might buy this game just based on someone elses opinion. but I believe that the targeted audience are the 'Mainstream' as this group always go for the big and popular trend out in the media either in films, TV or anywhere as they strive for 'security' in society.
Lifestyle categories
I think for the lifestyle categories FIFA targets the 'Trendies' and the 'Groupies' as these both consist them following the current trend and at seeing as FIFA creates massive up roar when it comes out i'd imagine that these two lifestyle categories would be their targets, as trendies are the people who follow a media text or purchase it if it's the current trend and the groupies is where it's targeted at people in groups (for example a group of teenagers) would all buy the game so they can play with each other online.
Classifying audiences
The Mainstream: For the people who follow the mainstream in media are apart of its audience, their main aim in life is to achieve security. This doesn't mean being locked away or setting passwords, but security to know that they fit in to the society they're in. I've chosen this text as I think that it's a good example of what would appeal to the main streamers, this being how I met your mother. This is because it is something that is very big and popular and ended only recently and that a lot of people would talk about the show. Because this show is very popular alot of people form the mainstream audience (which is the largest group of people within the 4Cs) would be able to talk about this show. Even still after it's big impact on people with it's end people will still gladly talk about the jokes, characters and stories what had happened throughout the course of watching it. This is why a mainstreamer would watch this show as it's very popular and will want to to be secure in society.
The Succeeder: The succeeder's are the people who always want the best that they can get their hands on because that's what they feel they deserve. People who fall into this group tend to be very organised and set him targets for themselves, they also desire to have control. I believe that a good example of what a good example for the succeeder's is and it may seem stupid but the video game Mine craft. I have chosen this media text as the user gets to have complete and utter control of what happens in the world, they could build entire city's or just explore but the point is that they have complete control and succeeder's aim is to have control.
The Explorer: The explorers are people who are driven by a need for discovery and things which are eccentric. For example an explorer wouldn't watch mainstream shows such as The Big Bang Theory, where they're not original enough as they follow a big genre. A good example of a media text which the explorers would watch is The Blair Witch Project. This horror film is the first of it's kind which is already enough to attract the explorers, well why this film is quite a unique film is because it created it's own type of horror genre that being handheld horror films, where the film is filmed by a handheld camera for the entire film.
The Aspirer: The aspirer's aim to have status for themselves, to be accepted by others. These people are more concerned by other peoples perceptions of them than they are their own values. A good example of this is the marvel film franchise, these films are very successful to their own degree but some people might and go watch it to say that they've watched it because of other people's views on these films, as they're seen as brilliant movies and these aspirer's mightn't even enjoy sitting there for around 2 hours to watch it but aspirer's do this because they want to achieve a status because they've watched it.
(B) I think that these help categorise big sections of people into a small amount of groups as this can help with certain media products. But I do believe that one person can home in different groups as some groups aren't too different such as the aspirer and the mainstreamer as they both want to achieve something within socializing and they both link with what other people see of this individual. So this can be helpful but some people don't always fit into just one category.
A show what I've just turned to is Russell Howard's Good New's. This show would generally be targeted at men than over women, as men generally prefer stand up comedian shows than women do. This show would be aimed at an older audience such as adults, as it talks about the news but adds in rude and crude humour, with swearing and adult references, meaning that this show isn't for children and family's as it's inappropriate for these audiences.
I think that How I met your mother would appeal to "Trendies" and "Groupies" as this show is very popular and a lot of people watch it so this show becomes the new big thing to watch so big groups of people watch it making them the "Trendies" and "Groupies".
I think that Mine craft appeals to "Trendies" , "Rebels" and possibly "Cowboys" for the trendies it's a big successful game so people who want to follow the latest trend so they'll be gunning for this game. For the rebels as they can do anything in this game, it could appeal to them as they can make there own image.
I think that The Blair Witch Project appeals to "Drifters" as it doesn't really seem to target a certain area, but the people who seem unsure will want to see this as it's a new type of horror film and it's the creator of it's genre too.
I think that The Marvel film Franchise appeals to "Trendies" as they're really popular films which have shook the box offices in recent years, so obviously it's going to attract the trendies to such a big phenomenon in the film world.
Media Diary: Week 2
Name: 'Mass Effect' (Trilogy game series)
I found it when at the start of the summer holidays when I went into town and decided to go into the shop 'Game' and I saw the trilogy box set, the cover of the box set caught my eye, I had heard of it previously and thought well I might as well give it a try. I started playing the trilogy during the summer holiday's term in 2013 completing it in the same holiday term. Since first starting the game and finishing it, I loved every second spent on each game.
My first reaction to the game was "YES" because I was able to customise my own character and even give him a back story. Once sitting through the introduction into the game I actually got to explore the Normandy (the spaceship your character owns) after speaking to some of the crew and exploring I got to meet one of the first main protagonists in the game and who goes through all the experiences with you. The pilot aka Joker. With his funny and snappy remarks in the conversation I had with him, I already liked him. Once seeing the environment of the game and the beauty it held from the scenery I grew to instantly love the game. Also the added freedom of exploring certain planets across the universe meant I could see the amount of effort was put into the game and couldn't help myself but to explore each planet and getting side tracked from the game. But once finding out that I actually could make own decisions in the game, I knew it was going to leave an impact on me, but upon finishing the game after meeting all the memorable characters after leading a heroic story as if I built an actual legend for the history books, it ended with an awful ending to a great series with limited options to how it ends. But after all that might be why I love this game series even more and admire it even more because how good the actual start and journey was! But once I put the box set into my draw, I became upset about the fact that I wouldn't be able to return to the times I felt happy, sad, angered or surprised without already knowing what happens.
I reckon that the Mass Effect series has such a massive fan base due to it's great story and great reviews given by big organisations such as IGN quote "one of the best Sci-fi story for a game last decade and possibly of all time". This I imagine would be a big draw of attention, but as well as it's a very original game with an unique story means that anyone can get addicted to this one of a kind games. Even though I really enjoyed this game the ending will get people angry at the makers of the game as the ending is a dishonest, dreadful and disgusting way to end any game. I'm not going to spoil the ending of the trilogy but there are 3 choices to chose from but all 3 are quite similar, even though the game makers said that this wouldn't happen, that being an A,B or C choices to end the game.
Finally, I say that this is one of the all time greatest games I've ever played an will ever play and it's story will always stick with me.
My Review: Fallout 3
My Review: Fallout 3
Game Trailer
Fallout 3 is a game which is set in Washington DC in America in the year 2077 after all the worlds nuclear war heads had been set off on each other creating the capital wasteland, where the game is based. For a game from 2008 it doesn't have the greatest graphics and effects, but the graphics isn't the main focus off the game as you build up your own character and give him an individual story and this is what the next Fallout (New Vegas) didn't have, as there isn't as much tension, suspense, mystery and this is why I chose this game other it's spin off. But that isn't to say that there aren't any flaws within this game as it can be quite glitchy and buggy but still overall is a great game. So the story for this game is that your character (boy or girl) who grows up with their single father (voiced by Liam Neeson), within a locked vault which is safe and protected. But once you reach the age of 19 (within the game), your character wakes up to be told by his/her friend that their dad has left the vault for no particular reason knowing that he wouldn't be aloud to return back to the vault, you get ready to leave the vault to search the Capital Wasteland in search of your father. I would carry on but I don't want to ruin this game's unique story. The theme about the story I think is about being independent. As through out the game you hear music from the 1970-80's which back then music wasn't very similar and stood very individual, as well as the game itself is very unusual as it explores a very original map and also has very memorable characters too and finally for the main character, he becomes his own individual as the user of the character gets to decide what they want to do with him, either that be to become evil or stay good everybody who plays this game gets a different experience out of it. Also another reason why this game is brilliant is that you get to free roam around at any time during the game, this might be common now in some games like GTA but the difference here is that it's new land and if you hadn't played it or watched it before you wouldn't know what lurks around within the Capital Wasteland.
My honest rating of this game would be about a 9.3 out of 10 for me. The only reason I wouldn't rate this any higher is because of how buggy the game can be at times and that it can be annoying at times when your trying to adventure around in the game.
Photo Composition
This photo that I've chosen is using the rule of thirds.
We can see this clearly because of the grid layout within the photo, the grid highlights that each third of the photo has something different in each section and also the the main focus of the image (the girl within the photo) is on the intersections of the grid.
This is a good example of using foreground and background.
As clearly seen the baseball is the main focus of the image as the rest of the image is slightly blurred, but the background adds depth to the image as well, as we can see the pitcher throwing the ball towards the camera so it self explains where the ball is coming from.
This image shows us how some photographers may use shapes to manipulate the thought of the audience to this photo. As we can see from the photo they just look like regular geese near a lake or a river. But how their necks are shaped it looks like some sort of heart which in reality it wouldn't do.
This image shows a good example of how light and shade should be used in an image. For me personally I see this picture as representation of a saying. Even on the darkest of days the light shall shine through and i think this image shows it best, and I think that this image also shows even when some one isn't having a good day or week that soon it will change from being bad to being good.
This image of a cropped picture of a cat, zooms into it's face and by doing this we can properly look into it's eyes. Because we are so zoomed into the face we have to focus on it and think about it. For me the cat shows torment and fear as I stare into it's ghastly eyes, for other people it'll mean other things. But if the original image wasn't cropped down to the cats face we wouldn't be think about this as it wouldn't be as focused on it.
